PLASTIC PRODUCT DESIGN




Introduction
The 3 days course covers a wide range of topics in product design to give participants the necessary knowledge and know how to design for performance and sustainability.  They will learn how to design new products from plastics materials or combinations of plastics with other materials where by the end products can be commercialize.


Target Group

This Plastic Product Design course is designed for people who;
·         Recently appointed designer makers, product designer, supervisors, management and administrative staff.
·         Quality assurance and design personnel.
·         Sales and marketing staff.
·         Becoming entrepreneur.
·         Anyone who interest to developed knowledge and skill in plastics technology field.


Prerequisites
Participants attending this course must have Basic Solidwork and plastic processing know how. Some experience in operating machines is useful but not required.


Objectives
Upon completion of the course, the participants should be able to:

(a)  Construct a basic polymer product design specification.
(b)  Design a basic polymer product from first principles.
(c)  Analyze the influence of polymer processing upon product design and final properties.
(d)  Analyze the influence of specific polymer properties upon product design.
(e)  Undertake basic quality appraisal of new polymer products
(f)  Capable to design plastic parts using solidwork.

Training Method
Training will be delivered through a combination between theoretical talk, demonstration and practical lessons.


Course Instructor
The instructor for this course is Mr Badaruddin Bin Md Yunus who is a senior instructor at ILP Jitra. Mr Badaruddin has 25 years experience in plastic technology. He graduated from Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM) in 1985 with a Diploma in Mechanical Engineering. He also has a Diploma in Plastic Engineering Technology from Northern Alberta Institute of Technology (NAIT), Canada.

Mr Badaruddin has taught many courses on plastic technology to both local and international participants. His expertise is recognized by the Department of Skill Development (DSD) where Mr Badaruddin frequently take parts in syllabus and material development sessions organized by DSD for plastic technology programs.

TRAINING PROGRAM DEVELOPMENT
All training programs including its curriculum structure developed follow National Occupational Skills Standards (NOSS). NOSS is a document that outlines the dexterity required of an employee working in Malaysia at a certain level of employment to achieve specific skills. This Standard was prepared by industry experts and skilled workers in related fields. Its help Skills Training Institute /Trainer/Instructor:
i. To develop an appropriate training curriculum which meets industry needs
ii. To design a full-time training program or customized program that meets industry needs
iii. To have a clearer understanding of the skills required by the industry
iv. Basic assessment of re- training needs of instructors/trainers to meet current industry needs
v. Proper career advice may be given effectively to trainees.

All the training contents will be developed base on NOSS requirement to ensure the skill training programs meets the industry needs and eliminating miss match/gap between training provider and industry /employers needs. It’s also giving us a clear and systematic approach on how to provide skill training to help company and employee to enhance their career.

We train our Trainer/Instructor on related skills areas to improve their knowledge, skills and attitude to become the best trainer in skill training every year including sponsored their participation in Malaysia Skill Competition.
